Re discovering your career passion

Do you ever feel like you’ve lost touch with the enthusiasm and passion you once felt about your career?

Remember when you were just starting-out at your first job, or you were a recent graduate? You probably thought that any job would be available to you; that every employer would want to hire you. You were excited about your prospects and believed that you had something wonderful to share.

But now that you’ve been in the work-world for quite a while, and have had a series of jobs with several different companies, have you become cynical or resigned in your work-attitude? Are you unsure as to which direction to turn next?

As a professional Career Consultant, I have found that this loss of career passion and enthusiasm is very common – and it’s one of my most troubling observations.

To address this problem, I came up with an amazingly simple three-part exercise, which I use with my clients. It helps them understand why this has happened to them, and what steps they need to take to re-discover their career passion.

If you’re thinking, “It’s too late for me,” I’d like to challenge you on that assumption. Allow me to show you how, by performing an internal evaluation and re-visiting your true priorities, you really can re-discover the career of your dreams!

Complete the following sentences without “over thinking” your answers. You may list multiple answers for each of the items below. Be sure to keep your responses focused only on the career/work aspects of your life:

Secondly, they point to areas where your own internal satisfaction will most likely match your external success – professionally, financially, and as a “whole human being” who is able to bring your complete self to the work.

And, finally, your answers will highlight the critical areas on which to focus your next career move – those areas where your talents and passions intersect with market demand!

Now that you’ve performed this brief internal evaluation, ask yourself this final question: Is your current career direction aligned with your true gifts, goals and passions? If not, remember: it’s never too late to correct the problem – as long as you have the right resources and support!

So, if you’ve been feeling resigned or cynical in your work-attitude, I urge you to take responsibility and take action NOW. Leverage the resources that are available to you, and commit to improving your career situation. You CAN STILL re-discover your career passion!

Depression and food binging in the family

Young women who grow up surrounded by family problems and any form of abuse are at high risk of getting eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia. Unless they get help and support in dealing with their emotional reactions to their problems. According to research studies, family conflict together with other problems, as well as emotional and/or physical abuse, with neglect during childhood, can set the stage for potential eating disorders. For many young girls and ladies, their response to family problems during childhood years, not the family problems themselves, seems to have a strong connection to the development of eating disorders. If a girl has been experiencing family problems that lead to physical and/or emotional abuse and neglect, she would grow up without any emotional support coming from them, a factor that is so important for a young woman's well-being.

In order to escape her negative emotions, a girl may focus intensely on her physical appearance. Thus, by eating in small proportions or by hardly eating at all, a girl can create a distraction for herself --- which then serves as a means of avoiding negative emotions. Somehow, she feels the need to narrow down her focus to something that's concrete. Another factor that leads to eating disorders like bulimia would be depression. Some girls can experience depression in school, where bullying is at its peak, and when everybody should look better than others. At this point, girls can see and feel depressed whenever they see popular girls with slim waists, and from there they could think of losing weight by means of purging, vomiting, and the like. Other girls get depressed when it comes to relationships, specifically romantic relationships. Of course, girls have the tendency to get jealous whenever her boyfriend looks at another attractive girl. This is normal, but for girls who have low self-esteem, this is pure punishment. They will eventually have thoughts that they are not as good-looking as the other girl, maybe because of her weight. This can possibly get the girl into hazardous eating habits, which can lead to having anorexia or bulimia.

If this is the case, any girl who suffers from any family problems or is dealing with depression should get professional help immediately. A lot of counseling sessions are available for those girls dealing with eating disorders, and this could benefit them by giving them advise on how to handle their emotions and feelings, together with support and help in fighting their eating disorder. Such sessions can open their minds and think of what is healthy and right, and can boost their confidence as well as their self esteem in order to build their true personality. Of course, girls should also be open to healthy diet options so that they can help themselves in getting back to shape in a healthier way. Try to see what options might be available diet-wise, since there are a lot of weight loss programs that cater to different people, depending on what they usually eat everyday. Girls should exercise regularly, like taking brisk walks in the morning or even going to the gym. This can help in maintaining a healthy body and mind, as well as helping oneself from the dangers of eating disorders.

Themes must always suit the company or rather, the organization / etc. If the website was made to cater for a food company, it would be wise to stick to that particular category, rather than to revert to a different theme, such as machinery.

8 golden techniques to get people to love the rules

Different things motivate different folks. Some people are motivated to enhance their appearance while others are motivated by prestige or sexual conquest. Others are motivated by money. When it comes to work, many people are not motivated to do much of anything except show up and collect a paycheck. It is our job as managers to create an environment in which employees are inspired to do a better job and forge.

A recent Gallop Poll stated that about 20% of people queried described themselves as “actively disengaged” at work. Most of these people also said that they were not given the proper tools to do their job or that they were not given clear directions for completing the task. From this Poll, we see statistics that are astounding. These employees who are being described as “actively disengaged” are costing employers more than 300 billion dollars a year! This same Poll showed that these people are more likely to go hooky or to be late and are also described as less enthusiastic to their jobs.

A frequent mistake that employers make is levying too many regulations for employees to follow. This is highly de-motivating for the employee! They feel that they are not empowered to creatively carry out tasks for fear of breaking a rule.

Having employees feel that they are not trusted is another critical mistake that management makes. Creating rules and polices that question an employee’s trustworthiness is common practice in major businesses. An example includes allowing a certain number of days off when a family member dies. This assumes that if there were no limit on the number of days, the employee would take advantage of their time off.

The following are tips to create a work environment that fosters motivation.

Guidelines for an Enjoyable Work Environment

• Minimize rules and policies to the essential. Rules are there to protect your business and create structure; if a rule does not serve that purpose, then you will need to consider retiring that particular policy.

• After the rules are established, it is essential that all employees know what is expected of them. Ensure apt promulgation of all regulations.

• Establish a code of conduct. Implement a collaborative effort which involves all or most of the employees that work with you. A vision and mission statement keeps the ship sailing towards a common goal.

• Follow the rules - no exceptions. If management fails to practice what it preaches, can it expect its employees to keep within the bounds?

• Management should address inappropriate behaviors immediately before they become habits. Use counseling or a progressive discipline approach rather than a “you’re in trouble” approach.

• Clearly broadcast work place guidelines for professional behavior.

• Seek employee feedback on rules and policies. Request for ideas to enhance these policies for greater employee empowerment. Sometimes staff have great ideas; after all, they do the job everyday!

• Ensure that these novel ideas of consistency in enforcing policy don’t come as a cold shock to rank and file. If you have been letting employees “get away” with things in the past, you should meet with them and explain that the new policies are there for everyone’s mutual benefit.

Sherry is a fortified wine, made in Spain from three types of grapes: Palomino, Pedro Ximйnez, and Muscat (Moscatel). Sherry-style wines made in other countries often use other grape varieties.

Sherry differs from other wines because of how it is treated after fermentation. It is first fortified with brandy and then if destined to be fino style a yeast called flor is allowed to grow on top. Oloroso style is fortified to a strength where the flor cannot grow. Andalucia no longer comprises three kingdoms as it once did, nor is it any longer the great Moorish Province that it was once, but still is the richest and sunniest part of Spain, stretching from Castile, in the North, to the Straits, in the South; and from the Mediterranean, in the East, to Portugal and the Atlantic in the West.

In this day in time your personal information such as your address, credit card number, checking account number, and even your telephone number, is at an all time high of theft. Telemarketing companies and marketing companies will pay top dollar for your personal information depending on the type of information collected. Identity theft and other related crimes are also at an all time high.

There are a couple things that you can do to help reduce the risk of having your phone constantly ringing day in and day out with a telemarketer on the other end and to keep your personal information secure from theft.

1) The number one mistake and the easiest way for a person to steal your information is actually in a very accessible place known as your trash. Most criminals of identity theft find your bills, check stubs and other personal info in your trash. Make sure you discard your personal info in a proper way, shredding is one way to cut down on this.

2) The internet is the number one source of information distribution in the world. When buying, applying, or signing up for something on the internet make sure it is a reputable company and they have a secure online certificate, otherwise known as a SSL cert. This scrambles all the information on the page into a code so others cannot see what is being typed into the screen.

3) Beware of scams either via phone or on the internet. If you haven’t heard of the company before or are unsure of what they are telling you don’t give them any information.

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is a form of software automation that uses various computer-aided design tools that helps engineers, architects and other professionals in the design activity purposes. Networking to find music education jobs

For those most passionate about their music, a job in music education is a natural fit. Far from being a case of "those who can't do, teach", those who take music education jobs are talented not only as artists but as teachers who want to pass their love of music on to another generation, to ensure that there is always music in the world.

Once upon a time, a degree in music education was seen as a 'fallback option'- the job that would always be there if a performing or production career didn't work out. That time is long gone now as states have cut funding for enrichment education across the country. While the job outlook for music teachers is still good, the Occupational Outlook Handbook says that jobs for musicians and teachers will grow at about average or a little faster than average rates through 2014 - school departments, private institutions and universities have the luxury of being able to be choosy about whom they hire to fill music education jobs.

One of the best ways to hear about music education jobs and openings is to establish a network of contact within the music education community. While basic networking is good, there are ways to network more effectively to concentrate your focus on finding and improving your chances of being hired for music education jobs.

Network locally.

Lucky you, you actually have three different sources of local networking that can help you narrow your job search focus. As an educator, get involved in local organizations for teachers and get your name out there. If you've made contacts while interning and practice-teaching, keep up with them, and ask their advice and guidance in your career path. By all means, let them and others know that you're looking for a job in music education. Other teachers are often the first to know that one of their own is leaving.

School department contacts are invaluable.

In most cities, the school department must post vacancies internally before advertising them to the general public. Those vacancies are often posted on a bulletin board in each school within the district. Let teacher friends and contacts know that you're looking and ask them to keep an eye out for you. Knowing that a vacancy is posted internally can give you a leg up on the competition and cue you to submit your resume and cover letter for music education jobs before they're advertised.

Network online.

Join national and local music teachers associations online, particularly those that hold regular events, symposiums and have a discussion board. Many of them post job openings for members, and more than a few allow members to post job leads and requests for job leads on their boards. An issue that plagues many retirees is how to manage retirement income in the face of the increasing cost of living. Even with moderate inflation, costs of living tend to increase over time. Time and billing issues can cause the single fastest way to put yourself out of business overnight or put yourself in the position of financial strain. Many people neglect to manage their time and billing properly and they pay for it in the end.

Time and billing entails payment tracking and invoicing. If you do it right you will get paid well and get paid fast. If you do it wrong, well, you might not get paid at all. Each of the following common time and billing methods have pros and cons as follows:

Time and Billing Through Automatic Credit

With this method of time and billing you grant everyone a certain amount of credit. You're at relatively low risk, what's the most you’ll lose, $250? You attract clients with this method. However, if you don't say what the terms are, most people are going to assume it is net 30. If you are not firm and assertive with this time and billing practice those 30 days quickly turn into 60 days and more. If you extend credit to everybody, odds are you will lose sooner or later. That is not a good thing at all. Despite its marketability this is not a recommended method.

Time and Billing With Minimum Deposits

The second time and billing practice is to require a deposit before starting a project. Typically the deposit ranges from 25% - 50%. If you are really aggressive it’s 100%. Collecting the deposit is often the easy part though. With this time and billing method how do you know when the project is complete? For this time and billing method to work you need to make sure the end point is very clearly defined. You also need to have the luxury of time between engagement and work. What if the deposit check bounces after you’ve started, and perhaps finished, the work?

Time and Billing Using a Merchant Account

This is a preferred time and billing method. The first project is done on a credit card authorization before you even start. A signed proposal or quote is faxed back to you with credit card information. You pay a small fee, 2 Ѕ to 3% to the credit card vendor, but at least you don't have to beg for payment. You don't have to take the risk of not getting paid. You don't have to go through the hassle of checking credit references and taking credit applications for a one-shot deal. The credit card charge can be disputed but this does not typically happen if the work is completed satisfactorily.

The Bottom Line on Time and Billing

Every method of time and billing has its pros and cons. What has proven to work best in the computer consulting industry is to use merchant accounts. This does not mean that time and billing using credit or deposits is wrong, it simply means that the least risky method is the use of credit cards.

What is a dot net and should i install it

Online home business owners depend on a lot of different software tools to manage both their websites and their office procedures. They would soon become overwhelmed with the work if they did not automate various parts of their workload.

While evaluating new software usually a trial download is offered to “test drive” it and see exactly how it functions. As part of the download and installation of this software more and more applications are now requiring that the user first install the “.NET Framework 2.0”. What exactly is this and should you be concerned when asked to install it?

.Net (pronounced “dot Net”) has been around since 2002. It’s not brand new or beta technology. It is software that is developed and distributed by Microsoft. If you were to search their website for. Net, you would find it defined as: “… software that connects information, people, systems, and devices.”

Initially Microsoft began naming all of their software with. Net added to it. This marketing plan did not work as expected so they went a different direction; giving the impression that. Net was dead.

In reality. Net is far from dead. More specifically the “.Net Framework” goes far deeper than the initial definition above. The “Framework” is a collection of library type programs Microsoft has written which make writing business and other applications for the Windows OS more reliable and robust. It is used primarily by software developers and programmers.

An average person downloading and installing the framework directly from Microsoft’s website would probably not be impressed after installation. From their view point nothing would work differently on their PC and there would be no additional applications to run.

Microsoft defines the “Framework” as: “… an integral Windows component for building and running the next generation of software applications and Web services.”

The “Framework” operates between business applications and the Windows operating system. It provides a vast collection of programming libraries which developers can use to display windows, manipulate text and numbers, send email, talk to other computers, etc. It also provides a consistent method of programming for the desktop environment, the web server environment and many of the new portable electronic devices being released. The framework also takes advantage of the latest programming techniques (object oriented development) which have been in use by other programming languages such as Java.

So what does this all mean for the average home business owner and should they really even care?

- The. Net Framework is reliable and safe to install.

- Business applications are easier to install and keep updated.

- Business applications can be integrated more easily with other applications and other websites. They can also make better use of new hardware devices being continually released.

- Microsoft is making stronger security practices a more integrated part of software development.

- Microsoft is integrating the. Net framework in its own software products which it sells.

- The. Net Framework is becoming a core part of the Windows OS. In the near future it will no longer be a separate download.

The. Net Framework is NOT “magic software” which allows all new applications to be bug-free and reliable. It is simply a complex framework or environment for programmers to develop with. It also provides a richer, cleaner, and more complete environment than in the past. Good software development and quality control procedures are still very important for the final business application product.

So today, if you see new home business software products which require the “.NET Framework 2.0”, feel assured that the latest and greatest development environment is being used as part of the software product and that it is safe to install.

An option arm even my mother would love

Callers and prospective clients often ask me, "Would you put your mother in an Option ARM?" I used to point out that my mother made two mortgage payments a month on a 15 year mortgage and paid it off in 10, because she knew she was going to live in her house forever. But when it came time to cash out to make some major home improvements on her beautiful old Tudor, we selected an Option ARM. A very different kind of Option ARM.

Many of you have read our articles about the Hybrid Option ARM or Fixed Option ARM mortgage. The phones at both East and West Coast offices have been ringing so much that the owner of the company is even fielding calls from customers on his personal number due to all the volume overloading the lines (you might get lucky and get him if you call, he waives application fees for anyone who gets him directly). Just like the hundreds of callers who reach out to us each day, my own mother saw the sense in the Hybrid Option ARM value proposition.

That's because unlike a standard Option ARM, the Hybrid has a fixed interest rate and payment for a period of time ranging from 3 to 10 years, and even after the fixed period is over most of them retain an interest only option. Now they don't have 1% start rates, but they do start anywhere from the high 3s (for excellent credit like my dear old mom) to the low 5s or equivalent. You can generally expect a minimum payment option on a Fixed Option ARM to have a payment of about 55% of the interest only payment at the rate of the note. In my mother's case, she locked in for 10 years and was able to pick up $100K for home improvements and debt consolidation for a monthly minimum payment of about $275. That's equivalent to the fully amortized payment on a loan of the same size with Zero Percent Interest. You heard me right.

Of course your mileage will vary with your credit history and the amount you are borrowing with respect to the appraised value of your property, but if you have a credit score of 620 or above and have at least 25% equity in your home, you probably qualify for this type of program. It's not quite as cheap as the start rate on the Option ARM, but it is a lot easier to understand and more stable to boot. The payment is fixed for a period of time, as is the interest, and you can make payments to principal whenever you want just like a regular Option ARM, but without the monthly rate variations. And it has a 15 year equivalent payment option on the payment coupon. Guess which one my mom likes to use?

If you guessed the 15 you're right, but now that she's on a more limited income than when she was working, having the flexibility to make a minimum payment when necessary helps her during expensive seasons, like the Holidays (spoils the grandkids like you wouldn't believe), or my Dad's birthday! And with the cash she pulled out, all of her credit card debt has been paid off and consolidated, so her monthly expenses have actually decreased, even though she's been able to upgrade all of the floors, fittings and furnishings with the balance of the money.

She loves it. I love her. Hey she's my mom. And if she's happy, I'm happy.

Making money on the trends with better trades

Dear Traders and Friends:

I have been having a blast trading this last week. I made $7,300 on KKD, $1,700 on FRX, $2,000 on QQQQ and am doing well in my open trade entering FRX to the downside.

I am putting a day of my commentary here for you to see the value of using THE DEDICATED TRADER website as a trading tool.

One thing I learned, when I decided to trade in the stock market, is how important it is to learn from someone that is actually walking the walk and trading. Let me clarify that even more, making money in the market!

I have been shocked to find out how many people out there that are big name authors in the stock market that do not trade or have a negative trading record. What I mean is the rumor is they are no good at trading!

I do what I teach! I am one of very few stock market authors who not only talks the talk, but I walk the walk. I place my trades on my daily commentary for you to learn from. And this has been very valuable for my readers.

COMPLETION OF QQQQ TRADE: 3PM EST

I closed my QQQQ trade from a few hours ago using a GTC I set about 1/2 hour ago to just take 50 cents. I was filled for $2.95 on my 40 contracts listed below for a profit of $2,000 before commissions. Not bad for a Friday.

My other trades are going well - RED, RED, RED...I love the downside.

TRADES: 12:00 EST

1. I purchased 15 contracts of FRX puts. August $60 puts $5.90 FHATL. I will stop out if it breaks the high of today at $55.90 if it does not head back down right away. I will then trail it down to around $52 to profit.

2. I just purchased 40 contracts of the July $33 QQQQ puts for $2.45 QAVSG. I will stop out with an alarm if it breaks the high of today at $31.47 and does not turn back down right away. It gapped up today on Intel's good earnings report but is getting weak as I type. I usually do front or next month out on the QQQQ. I will trail it down for profits.

The markets are looking very green at the market open, and my trades for today are all down ones (that is if the markets were down). Perhaps in a few minutes we will get a reversal????? I doubt it!

I had no up trades. We seem to be in the middle of a trend for most stocks, and we are in a very sweet uptrend.

Last, I just want to mention my trade on the QQQQ’s. It is one of my favorite things to trade. It is an EXCHANGE TRADED FUND that actually owns all of the NASDAQ 100 stocks in it. MSFT is the heaviest weight so I do watch what MSFT is doing for a direction. It obviously follows the NASDAQ market.

But as you can see by my trade listed above, I was able to buy 40 contracts at $2.45 a share for a cost of $9,800 and my delta was .71. The stock only moved about 77 cents to take a profit of 50 cents – making me $2,000 in about two hours. SWEET!

What I love about the QQQQ’s is that they have strike prices every one dollar! That means the July 33 calls I got when the stock was at $31.30 were only $2.45 with a delta of .71. That is incredible. You see, I could spend $5 - $8 per share on regular stocks to try and get that high of a delta, but it is so cheap on the QQQQ!

A lot of people miss the boat, thinking the QQQQ does not move enough to make it worth trading! What a mistake! I love trading this, and it only needs small moves to profit – but your investment is so small compared to trading stocks.

If you had only done 10 contracts that would have been a $500 gain from $2,450 before commission which is 20%! In a few hours 20% is phenomenal!!

All you need to do is pretend the QQQQ are a stock. Look at support and resistance the same way you do already, and choose a strike price with a delta of .70 or higher for a short term trade and trade it up on support and down on resistance.

Who am I and what do I love to do? Well, isn't this the twenty million dollar question! A more appropriate question might be "Who was I and what did I love to do?"

When I was a child I vaguely remember wanting to be a stewardess, a mother of 8 (don't know why it had to be 8, sounds rather ambitious in today's world), and a musician. Well, didn't every little girl who grew up in my world want to be a stewardess? It seemed so. Or, could it have been a clue to what really was the essence of me? Maybe I longed to travel and this was what society offered at the time.

I did have a musical inclination. I seemed to learn to play clarinet fast, and was quite good for a beginner. Never got past the beginning, victim of circumstances, but that's another long story. I could pick a tune on the piano by ear and dreamed of being able to sit down and flawlessly play the most beautiful of compositions. But, that didn't happen.

The mom thing? Don't know where that came from. Maybe the caring side of me. Maybe just that period most little girls go through where they emulate their mother and "play house." Who knows?

But, I did grow up to be the mother of four. I quickly learned that 8 was really ambitious. Some days, I don't know how I survive the four. I'm far from super mom status, but I guess I don't do too bad.

I've found recently, through self searching and pondering, that the question of "who am I?" becomes increasingly difficult with age and life's interference. Yes, life interference can be very damaging to our happiness. Our experiences tend to mold us into the person we are today. By the way, that isn't necessarily who we were meant to be.

Have you ever longed to be able to do something you are passionate about and truly loved as a child. Maybe it's some form of art; painting, drawing, crafting, dancing, or singing. Maybe you enjoyed building things or, taking things apart and putting them back together. Or, were you the mathematical genius in the class? Did you love to play school and teach real or imaginary children?

Childhood is innocence. As children we accept our true essence without question and pursue it daily in our real and imaginary play. It is life and life's external influences that re-route us away from what we love to do. We are too quickly discourage from the pursuit of happiness.

It is apparent in many happy, successful, adults that there is a often a common denominator. Most extremely successful people really love doing what they do. They live their work. They strive to be better and better at it. They never dread going to work and are always thinking about new ways to improve. They simply love the work. They "live to work" not "work to live."
